All over town, the great nameless “they” are Welcoming America, and this gives the discerning Philadelphian two choices: Leave altogether, or choose your movements wisely. If my experience as a resident of Center City around this time of year tells me anything, it’s that Dame Luz’s Summertime Dance Party at Fringe Arts/La Peg may be one of those things that goes off hidden in plain sight amidst the non-ironic, fannypacked American tourists and their horrible, trapped children. Promising “strictly '90s HipHop, R&B, Dancehall, Club & Pop jams” and not jumping off until 10:45 at night, you may, however, encounter a bro safari, but looking at the RSVP list on Facebook, I’m thinking you might be safe from that, too. In fact, the more I look, the more I’m starting to think that this might be the best and safest place to be during the entire Welcome America Nightmare, because when the shit goes down, wouldn’t you rather be amongst 800 Philadelphians dancing under the moonlight to De La Soul and Black Sheep?
