When The Secret Cinema promises you Weird Cartoons, buddy, you better believe that every word of the phrase “Secret Cinema: Weird Cartoons” is going to be delivered on. Now in their 25th year of curating and projecting some of the most brilliant and strange cinematic ephemera ever produced by mankind (almost always on 16mm film, no less), Secret Cinema has become an institution. And weird cartoons are something they’ve been trading in, here and there, ever since SC CEO Jay Schwartz hauled his projector up the stairs at the old Khyber at the dawn of the 1990s. On the program for this screening at Fleisher Art Memorial — worth the effort on its own as another one of the great spots in the city for blissing out — is a mishmash of Bugs Bunny’s predecessor, 50s-era booze education, earliest Japanimation, rogue Disney and psychedelic numbers.
