We, the undersigned:
A) maintain that the hope that we once held for the musical genre known as Grime has, much like drum ‘n’ bass, aged into, well, if not quite hope any longer, then certainly a type of love on our parts that will go on for a long, long time.
B) That what once emerged from the UK’s council estates via ratty Playstation-made beats and pirate radio into hit records by Tinie Tempah and Dizzee Rascal (and The Streets if you’d like to have that argument) has, in recent years, not crossed the mind of the general population all that much.
C) But we have never forgotten. The words “showerface” and “peng” still hold meaning for us.
D) We wonder often these days if Skepta might be grime’s caught-you-lookin’ surprise — he seems to be carrying the weight of the whole genre these days — and:
E) We wonder why you’re looking at us like you have no idea we’re talking about. That’s okay. One day, we still believe, you will. All of which to say is: We see you, Grime Night At Win/Win. We feel you.
Sincerely,
The Management
