A Requiem For Homo Sapiens At International House

  • International House 3701 Chestnut Street Philadelphia, PA, 19104 United States (map)

a film by Nikolaus Geyrhalter HOMO SAPIENS is a film about the finiteness and fragility of human existence and the end of the industrial age, and what it means to be a human being. What will remain of our lives after we're gone?

There is a name for that picture you Instagrammed from, say, the Reading Viaduct or Graffiti Pier last year. It's called "ruins porn," and while yes, it's beautiful and yes, it connotes how deep you really are, one day, it will be all that is left of us — minus the porn part. And how will that work out, when we're not even around to ascribe to these ruins all kinds of meaning and shit is just... blank? Austrian documentarian Nikolaus Geyrhalter’s Home Sapiens experiments with one likely way things will go down: Slow, eerie, person-less decay. In homes and churches and schools and malls (everyone’s fave/already happening), Geyrhalter turns his lens in this feature, which is bound to creep the hell out of you.
