It’s an unfortunate reality that along one of Philly’s most otherwise approachable food destinations — which includes both food retail and restaurants that feature cuisine from a globe’s worth of destinations — merely crossing the street without getting killed is a test thousands take daily. And for nearly a decade now, there’s been an ongoing effort from the City to do something about Washington Avenue. To say it’s been contentious would be one way of putting it.

Perhaps the best recap you can read of this is this post by Sean Blanda, but today we also come to you with a listen: The new episode of the Philly Built Podcast, hosted by Vern Anastasio of PhillyZoning.com. Vern is pretty much the Philly zoning wonk to end all other wonks, and on his new show, he talks with the folks on the front line of Philadelphia’s great re-build: Planners, developers, elected officials, and the community leaders at the center of it all.

And one of those folks at the center of the Washington Ave. debate is Philly Built’s guest this week:  Livable cities advocate Dena Driscoll. Check out the show above, which features their conversation about the ongoing saga of Washington Avenue’s road diet.

Full disclosure: Philly Built is produced by Doin’ Great, Philebrity’s content and communications studio for hire.
