In the short time that Shannon Maldonado has been doing these little pop-up design shops around Philly called Yowie, a fully formed brand and style has somehow managed to congeal. But to describe it, to really nail it down, is slippery: Part of the Yowie vibe is informed by classic mid-Century design, but then there’s also a pastel palate that alternates between Miami and the American west. Meanwhile, there’s also something a little haute, and still also something that has a real sense of humor to it. In short, it’s pulling on all of these threads, just so, to create its own whole kind of allure. And after said series of pop-up shops — aided and abetted by one of the best Instagram feeds in town — there will finally, as of this week, be a permanent Yowie shop on Fabric Row. (In the same space, by the way, that served the excellent R&D Vinyl for its freshman year, before moving further south.)
