It's a question lovers of the Philadelphia Museum of Art — and who among us is not one? ‚— have been wondering since 2014: What will Frank Gehry's additions to this city's crown jewel amount to? Renderings are one thing, but how will it feel? The anxiety is so palpable that a few years back, when an April Fool's prank posited that Gehry was putting in an escalator on the famous front steps, plenty were fooled. Those intrepid enough to table whatever plans they had for Thursday will get an early look at the work in progress on Thursday, when PMA goes pay-what-you-will for for an open house centered on the Gehry project. Join us for an open house to mark the official start of our Frank Gehry–designed renovations. On offer: Behind-the-scenes hard hat tours, conversations with Museum staff, and a new gallery installation with Gehry’s Museum model and large scale architectural renderings.
