“2017 MooreWomenArtists: Women in Animation Film Festival” will be running from Thursday, March 23 through Sunday, March 26, with frankly too much great programming for us to single out as one single best event, but let's let this one — a retrospective of the groundbreaking, Oscar-winning animation of Faith Hubley, mother to Yo La Tengo's Georgie Hubley and filmmaker Emily Hubley (the latter of whom will be on hand to discuss) — be the carrot. (To be clear: There's no stick!) Looking back at Hubley's animations now, one is still struck by how cool and fun and current they feel. In conversation with film archivist Jesse Pires, Emily Hubley will screen and discuss her work as well, along with a program of shorts by various other women animators beforehand.
