South Philly’s own Rose Luardo has been playing double dutch over the art/comedy/music/performance line for well over a decade now; you might know her from the Comedy Dreamz troupe that regularly performs around town, or from her adjunct status at various points with Spank Rock and Amanda Blank. Her newest piece, My Daughter’s Wedding, makes a synthesis promise perhaps only she could offer: It’s “an amuse-bouche of experiences served according to the artist’s logic guaranteed to give the viewer an emotional art chubby. Do you wanna ride in her body shell?”
It would not be impolite to suggest that you do. There’ll be videos as well as performance, and who knows what else. It’s also a deeply collaborative work — Brian Adoff, Quinton J. Alexander, Kate Banford, Kim Barbetta, Sarah Belle, Julia Celley, Thomas Choinacky, Teddy Hanson, Em Jensen, Shatyra Jones, Jerry Kabba, Michael Kelly, Sean MC, Thom Lessner, Alejandro Morales, Libby Reindell, Melissa Biddle Rowe, Tommy Touhill, Charity Thackston, and Andrew Jeffrey Wright all contribute here. It takes a village, apparently, to build what My Daughter’s Wedding’s tagline: “A dream. A lipstick. A body.”
