Back in the 1970s, when South Street was busy with the work of revitalizing itself, providing every other neighborhood in Philly with a blueprint for both what to do and what not to do, the TLA was a bona fide repertory cinema — the kind that showed Godard and Truffaut, Liquid Sky, and of course, The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Who knows how many times The Timewarp flashed across its screen and how many freaks the TLA liberated in a time when Philly so needed a place where that could happen? We cannot say. But we do know that the TLA and organizer Robert Drake are doing the whole city a solid by reliving those nights with Let There Be Lips! A Rocky Horror Party.
It’s a full evening of all things Rocky Horror: pre-show-hang at Tattoed Mom’s, an opening performance from glam act Candy Volcano, performances from local Rocky Horror types, and of course, the movie itself (interactivity encouraged) at midnight. There will even be “prop bags” on offer. Close your eyes, and old dirty Philly will come charging right back at you on a piece of toast.
