Weekend Picks: "Bring A Pashmina"

FRIDAY

Edward Rabbit famously loved a rainy night, and so do we. Our advice: Procure only the finest box of red wine you can legally purchase in Philadelphia, and fully nest in your punk rock roots. Some kind soul has recently remastered Shine So Hard, the art film/extended video/whatsit featuring a very, very young Echo & The Bunnymen; bookmark the video above. Also, Lightbox is having a digital/rental screening of the acclaimed new documentary White Riot, which chronicles the Rock Against Racism movement in the UK and feels, at the very least, tangentially topical now. (And if you perchance would like to steal this look, go online and fetch yourself a copy of Untypical Girls.)

Perhaps you Juana Tamale to go with that fine plan you just made for it. Take out and preview Jen Zavala’s new concept tonight and tomorrow via the kitchen at Underground Arts.

Our friends at The Head & The Hand are the proud current holder of a magical machine where, if you wave your hand above it, it gives you a short story. (Attn. CVS: Are you seeing this???) Witness the miracle and treat yourself as the set up stakes over at Cherry Street Pier. Speaking of stories and things, Freeman’s Biannual is one of the best intermittent literary journals to crop up in the last decade. Their newest issue is nothing less than an anthology of writing about love. There’s an online reading to celebrate it, and it’s free, mans!

You gotta love any event in a backyard that promises quadrophonic sound and advises you to “bring a pashmina.” I don’t know exactly what QUAD/MAAS is really is yet, but I know it ain’t bad.

SUNDAY

Late breaking good time news: The outdoor, socially distanced Tom Petty thing with Pat Finnerty up at Sutton’s has been rescheduled for Sunday due to rain on Friday. See how that works? Everything is so much easier when you can’t do anything else. While you’re up there, check out The Lot Flea over by The International.

And no matter what you’re doing, mask the hell up! As the rappers used to say: You can live your whole life and I hope you live long!
