New Report: Philly Tap Water Rules, OK?

Note: This post originally ran in July of 2022; we’re reposting it now to remind folks that Philly tap water is of superb quality and this isn’t just opinion — there’s also science to back it up.

We’ve said it before, and we will say it again:

And yet, in the same way that you meet people from other cities and they want to know if you, personally, have ever thrown a battery at Santa Claus, doubters of Philly water persist.

Luckily, we all now have current, immediately available science on this. This morning, The Philadelphia Water Department released a brand new Drinking Water Quality Report, and it’s really something. Comprised of a megasuite of facts, figures, infographics and tables, the report takes into account Philly’s vast water system, which delivers that brash, good-ass Philly tap water to nearly 1.6 million Philadelphians each day, through 3,100 miles of water mains straight to your gorgeous Philly mouth, honey.

And the news is good: Lead is way down, the chlorine level is… civilized, and hardness? Oh, it’s hard, alright:

Just the way we like it. Check out the report in full here.
