Justice For Paul & Yoko NOW!
On this, the occasion of Global Beatles Day, let us very briskly put forth two things we know to be true but are nonetheless widely obscured from much of the discussions about this magical band:
Paul is unfairly maligned. And in fact, Paul is probably the chillest, and most ethical, and head-screwed-on of the bunch. For more on this, read Tom Doyle’s excellent Man On The Run: Paul McCartney In The 1970s. It will totally rearrange everything you know about the breakup of the Beatles, and give you a whole new window into Paul’s actually pretty astounding output in the aftermath of the Fab Four.
Anyone still dissing Yoko at this point is not only a racist and misogynist, but like most racists and misogynists, is missing out on some really great, life-affirming stuff, whether we’re talking about Grapefruit or Approximately Infinite Universe.
With that in mind, go forth and Beatle.
