Behold, The R5/First Unitarian Church Vans Sneaker
The folks at R5 dropped a hint last week when they changed their Facebook profile pic to a snap of the pockmarked, kindergarten-gone-very-awry stage rug at the First Unitarian Church — which, to a certain generation of music fans, would have had to evoke quite a lot. It’s on this rug, after all, that hundreds (thousands?) of punk/indie/etc. bands have played over the years. Proust’s madeleine, if you will, but make it punk, make it stinky.
Well, if that’s the road you went down, you’re in luck and have a chance to help the R5 staff right now by purchasing what is sure to be one of the most Philly custom-Vans jobs to have ever come down the pike. The R5 Church Carpet Vans retail for $90, and you can order them here.
“Proceeds from the sale of these custom shoes will benefit our hard working staff during the shutdown,” said the R5 folks in a post. “The hand stampers, the ticket scanners, guest list receivers, equipment lifters, email writers, the behind-the-scenes and on-the-ground people who work to help make all ages live music a reality.”
