It's International Women’s Day, and Philly.com has a breakdown of the happenings. Teachers and city employees are striking. This evening you can join a demonstration near Logan Circle, and tonight you can go see a benefit show featuring woman-led punk bands at Underground Arts.

But this afternoon, you should take a few minutes for poet and activist Sonia Sanchez, Philadelphia’s first poet laureate, who pioneered Black Studies during four decades of teaching. Two albums of poems are streamable on Spotify. And here she is in 2008, reading some work at an Interdependence Day celebration in Brussels.
