Mark Your Calendars: The South Street Spring Festival Returns This Saturday
We are proud to be a media sponsor for this year's South Street Spring Festival, the block party extravaganza that is annually one of the city's premiere hangs. This year's festivities will be highlighted by the debut of the Philly Taco Eating Contest, a sort of alternate universe, shame-free -- well, mostly-- anti-Wing Bowl in which contestants try to scarf down a cheeseteak from Jim's that has been wrapped in a Lorenzo's slice to demonstrate their inherent Phillyness and gastronomical fortitude (have Nexium on standby). As one would expect from such a gathering, there will also be 125 food trucks, three stages which will host a total of 40 bands, and Brauhaus Schmitz's corresponding Maifest Street Festival that celebrates German culture and food. Even though technology still doesn't exist for vendors to send you back in time to Veem or Tower Books, you wont miss it, as this event will showcase the pleasures of South Street here and now.
The South Street Spring Festival. Sat., May 7. 11am-8pm. Free.
