Philadelphia artist Lauren Rinaldi, in a move that would make her unique even if it was just the unheard-of clarity in her own artist's statement alone, says it best: Her work "inhabit[s] the space where the line between sexual empowerment and objectification is blurred." But also in that liminal zone, there's fun, sorrow, and your own gaze that seems to jump in flash-motion from the Renaissance to 70s skin mags and back again. Rinaldi's work is showing all over town this spring, as in the Portrait show at Paradigm Gallery & Studio, opening this Friday.
